Clean energy from rural regions

Welcome to the VIS NOVA project website
VIS NOVA is a joint project of five partner regions coming from four different EU member states (regions of the “Dübener Heide” and Schwäbisch-Hall/DE, Tullnerfeld-West/ AT, Małopolska/Poland and the South-Transdanubian Region/HU). They aim for the objective to cover in the medium and long term up to 100% of the territoryÂ’s energy demand by energy being produced off regional resources. Sustainability and a secured supply shall be turned into a location factor; the possibility to determine prices can be exploited as a new incentive to promote economic development. Moreover, regional added value and hence employment in the energy sector are strengthened.

The project pursuits an integrated approach which addresses both the supply (provision of sustainable energy) and demand site (efficient use). Best practices will be researched, transferred and tested in pilot measures (both pre-investment and small investment) before the regional energy development plans will be adopted with a political vote. During this process, financial resources from national programmes will be explored and responsibilities for the plansÂ’ implementation assigned. Already existing energy/regional development agents (usually those participating in the project) will assume the competency of a regional sustainable energy centre to master the energy development plansÂ’ medium and long-term implementation.
